Why Translate the Vote?
Voting laws change often, voting forms use complicated and unfamiliar words, and most people only once a year at most- we don’t get a lot of practice!
Even people who are fluent in English can get confused and make mistakes when voting. For voters who are not comfortable reading English it can be nearly impossible to understand the process of registering and voting.
Federal law protects your right to vote, even if you do not read, speak, write, or understand English very well. These protections apply when you register to vote or cast a ballot. You can receive bilingual assistance and materials in some places, and in all places have a right to have someone help you vote.
The federal government provides translated voter resouces in over 20 languages, and many states also provide translated voter materials. But unfortunately, many people aren’t aware these resouces exist.
That’s where we come in! Translate the Vote creates and shares simple, clear, reliable education & resouces for voters in the United States, along with resources created by cities, states, non-profits, and other trusted voter support organizations such as the EAC. We provide information in English and many other languages, along with databases of and spreadsheets of the (many) translated voter resouces available online.
